FAQS
When is the best time to visit Bali?
The great thing about Bali is it’s usually quite warm & sunny all year round, so it’s perfect to go at any time. There are generally 2 broad seasons in Bali. April to October is usually dry and warm/sunny. November to March is slightly cooler with a slightly higher chance of rain, but this rain is often only for an hour or so, which can be a nice relief from the heat.
When should I arrive for my tour?
It’s best to arrive a day before or on the actual start date of the trip latest by 1 PM. This is when most people arrive. There are no activities in the first half of the first day but the group gets together in the evening for an ice-breaking session at around 6pm, followed by a crazy night of clubbing at iconic Bali beach clubs. Sometimes people like to arrive a day or two before the trip starts so they can do their own exploring or just have a bit of time to chill before all the fun begins. You’ll be given an airport transfer no matter what day/time you arrive in Bali.
Which airport do I need to fly into?
You need to fly in the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as the Denpasar Airport, Bali’s main International Airport.
Can I book pre & post-tour accommodation with you?
If you are arriving before the start date you can book extra nights at the tour accommodation or any one of our recommended stays. To do this, simply intimate our team a few days in advance, make the payment & get it booked from us. Same goes for your post-tour accommodation bookings.
Are flights included in the price?
Flights to and from Bali are not included in the price of the tour and will need to be booked separately. All our travellers fly in from different corners of India & beyond. We will assist and advise you on which flights to book, airline, luggage etc, and also book the flights for you if required. You can request a quote from our team.
Do I need a visa and can you arrange it for me?
A visa on arrival (VOA) for Indonesia is available to Indian citizens. The VOA can be obtained upon arrival in Bali, no prior process needed. Travellers must pay a fee of IDR 500,000 ($35 USD or approx INR 3,000). You will need at least 6 months remaining validity and 2 blank pages in your passport. You may need to show your return flight ticket & hotel details at Bali Immigration. You can also apply for e-Visa on this site: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/
How much spending money will I need?
All your activities, transport, accommodation and some meals are included in the tour, so you will mainly just need money for extra meals, drinks, shopping and add-on activities or upgrades. If you wish to carry cash/currency, we recommend our travellers exchange Indian Rupees for around $200–$300 in cash while in India. Once in Indonesia, you can easily exchange these US dollars for Indonesian Rupiah, either at the airport or at local exchange centers, to use during the trip.
What’s the best way to access my money?
We recommend carrying VISA or MASTERCARD debit and credit cards with international transaction facilities enabled (for e-commerce, in-store purchases, and ATM withdrawals). You can easily activate this feature via your bank's online banking app or by contacting your branch. These cards can be used for swiping at cafes, spas, bars, and stores or for withdrawing local currency from ATMs during your trip. You can also use a Forex Card that can be topped up on the go.
Do I need to get a local SIM card?
You can opt for an international 10-day calling and data package from your current Indian network provider or purchase a local SIM card upon arrival at Bali airport, which activates instantly. We recommend getting a SIM card from Telkomsel, a reliable provider, with packages priced at approximately INR 2,000 for 24 GB data, local calling etc.
Is Bali/Indonesia a safe place to travel, especially for women?
Yes, Indonesia is a very safe destination for female travellers. With a full-time trip leader and guide to support you, a carefully curated group, and a focus on creating the safest space possible, with Island Crew, you can explore with confidence and peace of mind.
What should I pack for my tour?
Whether you have a backpack or a suitcase the main thing to keep in mind is not to bring too much stuff! We strongly recommend that you bring less than 20 kgs of stuff with you. Bali is a tropical destination so carry light, breathable clothes, made of cotton, linen and similar materials -- swimwear, tank tops, shorts, flip flops. Carry a pair of clothes that cover your knees and shoulders for temple visits. An extensive list of “things to carry” and other instructions & guidelines will also be shared on your WhatsApp group closer to the trip.
How many people will be in my group?
Our backpacking groups usually have around 10-20 people on them, aged between 18 to 32 years. We get people from all over the country & beyond on our tours, so you’ll get to bond with a wide range of travellers (creators, doctors, founders, business leaders, students, artists, lawyers, defense personnel, corporate professionals, bankers, consultants from top companies & more!), who all share that same passion for adventure! As long as you have an appetite for adventure and are happy bonding with people of all backgrounds, you’ll fit in perfectly!
How can I get in touch with my group?
You will be added to a WhatsApp group with all your fellow travellers, trip leader and the Island Crew team about a week before your trip starts. It’s a great way to chat and get to know your future besties before all the fun begins in Bali.
What if I'm travelling solo?
If you're struggling to convince your friends to join you on an adventure, you're not alone! Travelling solo on a group trip can be one of the most exciting ways to experience a new destination, and you won't have to wait around for your mates to be ready. You leave yourself open to meeting amazing people, making new friends, and immersing yourself in unique experiences that you’ll tell your grandkids about one day! Trust us, Island Crew trips are not only wildly epic, they’re truly life-changing -- ask any of our previous guests!
The backpackers’ special group trip is designed exclusively for solo travellers, so joining one of our backpacking tours is a great way to meet people and make friends. You’re also welcome to bring a friend or sibling along. The more the merrier! Before your trip starts we'll put you in touch with the rest of your group so you can start chatting and get to know each other. And after the trip a lot of people continue travelling with the new friends they've made! The female to male ratio is usually 50-50.
Is vegetarian food available in Bali-Gili?
Yes, vegetarian and vegan food is readily available in Bali & Gili Islands, especially at the spots we’ll be visiting. You can also always inform your dietary restrictions or preferences to the chef and place food orders accordingly. Most cafes & restaurants would accommodate your requests easily, and we’ll of course be recommending great vegetarian eateries along the way.
Do I need to know swimming in order to snorkel or scuba dive?
You will be provided with life jackets and instructors for water activities so it’s NOT an issue even if you can’t swim. No previous experience is needed either, but some basic swimming skills will go a long way.
After Your Trip:
A big part of the Island Crew difference is our pre & post-trip support. Our virtual & on-ground team will spend enough time as needed to ensure you are totally comfortable and confident with your travel plans and where you’re going next.
